Our Hope in the Midst of Challenges-Part 1

“I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.” (Colossians 1:24-29)

The book of Colossians is one of the epistles of Paul that is commonly used for new believers. It is an epistle used to establish believers in faith. It also introduces us to the life of a believer: how a believer should think, how a believer is to honour Christ, showing us we don’t need to add anything to our life in Christ, because we are complete in Him and that He should be number one in our lives. In total the book of Colossians centres our hearts and minds on Christ and Christ alone.

Paul, who planted the church in Colossae prayed for the church, that they would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will. Now some of us in the 21st century church have a lot to learn from such prayer, because we have raised material prosperity above knowing the perfect will of God, including knowing the will of God for our financial prosperity.

In closing this chapter, may God grant us the ability to know His perfect will as we see that Day approaching.
