“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we may boldly say: the Lord is my helper; I will not fear what can man do to me?” Hebrew 13:5-6.
Have you noticed how we have become a generation that covets what others have when the scripture is against covetousness.
You see others use iPads. You want it. Even if you struggle financially it is OK. After all it is the ‘in thing’. For some of us it has become the pulpit status.
Keeping up with the ‘Joneses’
All your friends are home owners. So you also must be a home owner but your friends never told by you that they struggle with their monthly mortgage payments and some wish they had never bought their houses as the income is not what it used to be so it’s now the house vs good food on the table. It’s now back to buy now pay later catalogue clothes. It’s one-zero-zero or zero-half-one on the dinning table. O my God forgive and have mercy.
Others are changing their cars so you must do it too to prove that God is blessing you! Since when has materialism become the only measuring tape of God’s blessing.
Beloved be content with what you have. It is no one’s business if you live in a council house or if you are home owner at least you have a roof over your head. Whether you change your car or it is the same car you’ve had for 10 years. iPad or no iPad. By the time you buy the latest iPad Air, iPad Pro is released. When will it end? While you are chasing these things, your marriage is suffering the stress, your health suffers, fear settles in. Fear that one day the show may be over and you lose it all to creditors! Your children are lost in the ocean of covetousness too and you have no time to train them to value life and leave a simple life without stress.
Brethren, let us be content
The only discontent permitted is in our relationship with our Risen Lord.
We are to want more of Him. O that I may know Him more!
