The car satellite navigation system is an amazing piece of technology. All you need to do before setting off on your journey is to type in the name of the road or street where you are going and then type in your postcode or zip code. Then in a few moments you have your journey planned ahead of you.
Before these devices existent, if you wanted to get from one town to another, we would have to get a road map and make notes of any turnings or exits. It also helped if you had a passenger, who could read and understand the road map.
But this navigation system reminds me of how our Heavenly Father will sometimes lead us. In the book of Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet, And a light to my path.” Sometimes our Heavenly Father will tell us things for the future that He has planned for our lives. But He won’t show necessarily how we will eventually get there. The Bible tells us in Genesis 37 that Joseph had a couple of dreams from the Lord, but the hardship and pain that he would go through was not revealed, just the end results.
In these situations what do we do? If we believe that God has truly spoken to us then we must, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
Let the Lord himself lead us step by step in every way as we yield totally to Him.
