John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV)

What a verse! What love shown! Whenever I ponder over this verse, I just marvel and begin to think about the two characteristics which I’m drawn to: ‘Love’ and ‘Giving’.

Giving is an act, a transfer of one thing to another which occurs in our world on a daily basis and love is the foundation of the Christian faith; it is the fire starter. The word says in Acts 20:35b “And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” It also says in Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Our God is all about giving.

Now, try to imagine for one second what life would have been like if God had not given us His Son Jesus Christ or if God did not meet our daily needs. I do not know what that world would have been like. I am reminded every day to be grateful for the greatest gift God gave to us, His Son Jesus Christ and the many gifts He showers upon us every day.

We are one people, one heavenly kingdom, one body in Christ made up of many nations as one family. We must never forget, just as it is in God’s DNA to give, we as his children must also give. God gave us the nations filled with many tribes, tongues and unique cultures, a vibrant colourful international community. Yet this community has become selfish because we have put the wants of ourselves ahead of the needs of others.

I am not here to condemn, but to tell you that Christ wants us all to have a giving mentality, to have a heart that loves everyone around us. When Christ was on this earth, He went around doing good, healing those who were sick and meeting the needs of the people.

Christ gives us opportunities every day to give, whether it is in our families, churches, communities and nations so let us give freely, with a heart of love!!

My prayer today and every day is that we will never grow tired of giving.
