One of the songs I love says “behold He is alive, Christ is risen, from the dead, He broke the chains of death, Christ is risen, risen from the dead!
“And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and our faith is also empty. Yes and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ who He did not raise up – if in fact He did not rise. For if the dead do not rise, the Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable” 1 Corinthians 15:14-19.
One of the joys of Easter time is not the eggs we buy for our children (as important this might be to children) but to me it is the fact that on the 17th of April 1987, I encountered our resurrected Christ at an Easter retreat.
You see, beloved, you can deny what is written in the Bible to be words of men and not of God (as some do on regular basis) You can even deny and argue that Christianity is a White man’s religion if you are of my race. But what you can never argue or deny a personal encounter with Him!
Many people in our churches today are worshipping Christ as if He is some kind of religious guru. They take Him as their meal provider which He loves to do or as another one of the religious leaders so if in six month time you do not get what you ask from Him, you will seek help somewhere else.
Jesus is the Son of God. “Who being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of those in heaven, and those on earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father” Philippians 2:6-11.
This same Jesus is the One I encountered on that faithful night.
Having gone to church (that night) sceptically even though, I was born in a Christian home, taught to read the Book of Psalm before night and morning time, instructed to pray at the dining table with eyes closed (even though I hated it for fear of my food disappearing), I went to church as a child regularly, but all the religious discipline did not quench the hunger for worldly passion and quest to satisfy my longing desire for a lustful lifestyle.
You see, beloved, sin is pleasurable and has torment. Even though I was born in a Christian home but every aspect of faith in Christ was never evident in my life.
In case you are one of those who justify your going to church as a key to salvation. It is like saying you are automatically married because your parents are married. It is not an entry ticket to Heaven neither is it a key to enjoy peace with God through Jesus. Christ is our peace.
As we often say, know Jesus, know peace. No Jesus no peace.
Looking back to many years of living to please SELF, I cannot but appreciate God for sending His Son, Jesus, to the world to save sinners like me. You may say what are you saved from? I am saved from eternal judgement awaiting those who reject the gift of God-Jesus. Knowing that my sins are forgiven and God has no record of anyone of my past sins. Knowing that I have the grace to live life in Christ with joy and peace is a great privilege. Knowing now that I am a new creation no more in condemnation is wonderful.
Death and resurrection life of Jesus is real. The life of Jesus has changed the lives of millions. Many are dying because of their testimonies of Him and they are more willing to die than to take a short cut to live.
Having had an encounter with Jesus Christ myself, no man can change my testimony of Him. It’s too late.
He is no longer in the grave! He is alive.
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not contain Him. On the third day He rose from the dead and He is coming back. “And the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself” John 20:7 Indicating He is coming again.
You can only enjoy the life of Christ by experience, not by simply attending a church.
A child is not in the house until the baby is born. The Church is bigger than the building. It is His Body that meets in various places.
To experience such life please pray:
O God, I come to you today a sinner.
I admit that my sins are many.
But I know that if I confess and forsake them I shall find mercy.
Today I confess that I am a sinner,
I ask that you to forgive me
I turn to you alone, Jesus, as my Saviour and accept you as Lord.
I believe that You are the Son of God who died for my sins and rose from the dead and I am saved.
